CTBREC Recorded Video Default

Brossard

Provider
CTBREC works really well and I love it. I do have one niggle and that is that he default video type is .ts. In my editor (Avidemux), these must be converted to .MP4 manually (and they must be MP$ in order to upload to CW). Some videos with dodgy quality (I'm looking at you Stripchat) have to be saved as .MKV first and then saved again as .MP4.

Wondering if CTBREC can be configured to record .MP4 directly. I have checked the Recorder Settings and it shows "File Extension" as ts. Is it as simple as changing the file extension?

Yes, it's that simple... Just change File extension to MP4, save and you are all set.

Right, so I changed the file extension and that works. Problem now is that, rather than a thumbnail of the video, I get the VLC cone. I've looked around CBTREC and VLC but I can't see anything to fix it. The video does run but it is handy to get a sense of the video. Probably something really simple. Any advice on how top get the thumbnail back?

BTW, I did check VLC preferences and the box for "Display video snapshot preview" is ticked.

I did some video processing with the CBTREC recorded MP4 videos. I still need to load them into my editor (Avidemux), trim them and re save as MP4. I did note in a couple of instances that Avi didn't recognize the CBTREC MP4 video and wouldn' open it. In those cases, I had to save the trimmed video as MKV, reload and save it again as MP4.

I came to the conclusion that having CBTREC record as MP4 doesn't add a lot of value. There's the lack of thumbnail as well. That being the case I have gone back to CBTREC recordings as TS.

+1 with Brossard, no benifits at recording with ctb in mp4, even more if you edit with avidemux, conversion is almost instant anyway ;)

I agree with you Brossard .. But if you insist on MP4 you have to live the consequences...

If there is any tiny glitch in the stream's connection or if your pc has any issue that interrupts it, the mp4 file might not save properly. If you record in mp4 format frequently, this will start becoming a noticeable problem. TS is much more forgiving for stable streaming and recording.

Thanks that sounds about right. I record mostly asian girls and their streams can be dodgy, particularly those real asians on Stripchat (where chat is in chinese).

Anyway all is good now and I'm back on TS.

I get something similar from time to time. Ticking and unticking the pause box usually gets it restarted. It is damned annoying especially if you walk away to do something useful. My theory is that there are breaks in the stream and/or the stream is weak.

It sounds like you're recording too many streams simultaneously. I made that mistake when I started. On a 25mbps connection to myself I record at an absolute maximum 8 streams. Usually 6 streams @ 720p. If you got anything else on your connection you need to reduce number of streams even further. Although CB Russian streams do seem to be the best streaming quality wise. LJ seems about the worst.

But I have no problem dumping ts (encoded as h264) to MKV (copy mode) and then uploading that directly to CW or doodstream.
The only disadvantage with MKV is if you upload to Mega then it won't play or show thumbnail. BTW there is a program to enable MKV thumbnails in windows.

This issue can happen even while recording a single stream. The only way that I've been able to solve it is by pausing and unpausing as Brossard mentioned.

thanks
it kills the purpose of leaving the stream to record if one is away
as i was planing to buy the licensed version
Hard to understand what you are saying. A huge advantage of CBtrec for those who post a lot of videos is the ability to record multiple streams automatically. Most cam shows are 90% boring with a few minutes of excitement. It's a waste of time IMO to sit and watch these shows in real time.

It's a different matter if you like to throw tokens at girls in hopes of getting something good. I've done that too but I usually come away feeling disappointed.

As for CBtrec, it is free to download so why buy a licensed version?

Hello,

i am new here and wanted to ask if anyone here can confirm that ctb has problems with recording the stripchat streams?

I am using the latest 5.0.1 version and e.g. the recording of chaturbste works without problems.

Thanks

@matti66

Welcome. Yes this is a known issue. You could try using an older version of the program (it might work, no promises), or use another method altogether.
Hi,
For some time, unable to record Stripchat streams for me too. I tried to pause then restart the recording, it does not work : the recording starts then stops after a few seconds. I tried version 5.0.1, then I also tried again an old version (4.7.13) : nothing works and the problem remains the same.
Do you have any other tips to fix it ?
I hope an update will come to solve this problem soon, because my favorite models are mostly on Stripchat.

Couldn't the problem come from Stripchat instead ? I'm recording 4 to 8 streams simultaneously, but I have a 250 mbps connection.
